Long-distance and Coach Bus Terminal Neufeld, Bern, Expansion, Concept Study with Follow-up Commission for Planning Teams with General Planning Management Mandate

The new long-distance and coach bus terminal is an important arrival point for travelers and a central component of the city's infrastructure. The concept to be developed should present the idea of a new, contemporary long-distance and coach bus terminal for users. Arriving and departing passengers can orient themselves well and feel safe 24/7, both on the way to the site and during longer waiting periods on the site. As a new gateway to the city of Bern, the terminal welcomes travelers with an open, clear structure and good connections to public transport. The new bus terminal provides space for 6-10 stopping bays and 6-10 bus parking spaces. For operations (waiting room, sanitary facilities, driver rest area, etc.), a heated usable floor area of between 80 and 180 m2 must be planned. On the site, 4-5 parking spaces, so-called Kiss and Ride spaces for dropping off and picking up passengers, are arranged. It is possible that part of the space program, such as waiting rooms and sanitary facilities, could be integrated into the existing P+R Neufeld. Uncontrolled or extended parking is to be prevented by appropriate means. Furthermore, a Publibike station must be planned within or at the edge of the site. Beyond a high-quality urban and open space design solution that is appropriate to the terrain, cost optimization as well as value and climate-friendly materialization are in focus. Optional requirements such as green roofs and installation of photovoltaic systems should be examined under these aspects. The first-ranked concept will be further developed and implemented in the subsequent phases in collaboration with Hochbau Stadt Bern and with the specialist knowledge of the jury.
