Competition Special Education School, Heerbrugg
The existing facility of the Special Education School (HPS) in Heerbrugg is at capacity and can therefore no longer accommodate additional people with disabilities. It has been extended multiple times over the years and supplemented with temporary structures. This has resulted in a heterogeneous structure and correspondingly aging building fabric. Additionally, the existing facility has both operational deficiencies and further shortcomings in spaces and infrastructure. Through an open design competition, the Special Education Association Rheintal (HPV) seeks to find a project proposal for a new school building on the adjacent plot. A new building will address the problems with the building fabric and school operations. Furthermore, school operations can be maintained during the construction phase. Teams consisting of the disciplines of Architecture and Landscape Architecture are eligible to participate. They will develop a project proposal that meets the needs of the HPS.
