Planning Competitions – Canton St. Gallen

St. Gallen is one of eastern Switzerland's largest and most active cantons for planning competitions. The city of St. Gallen, Rapperswil-Jona, Gossau and numerous Rhine Valley communities regularly issue projects. School buildings, renovation of historic structures, especially in St. Gallen's UNESCO-listed convent district, and infrastructure projects are particularly well represented.

Most procedures follow SIA 142/143. St. Gallen city's building office is considered a model for quality-oriented procurement culture in German-speaking Switzerland. Two-stage procedures with pre-qualification are common for large urban projects.

The University of St. Gallen (HSG) and the OST university of applied sciences are key clients for educational buildings. Firms from across eastern Switzerland and from neighbouring Austria and Liechtenstein regularly participate.
