Extension of Niederrohrdorf Primary School
Die Jury empfiehlt der Auftraggeberschaft das Projekt Palimpsest (1. Rang / 1.
Background The existing facilities of Niederrohrdorf Primary School will not be sufficient in the near future to accommodate increasing student numbers and meet current pedagogical requirements for school spaces. Therefore, new school spaces must be built in the short term. As part of a feasibility study, the school space requirements have been reviewed, defined, and the location at the existing school site has been confirmed. A quality assurance process will now identify the best project. Based on the results, services will be awarded in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture and civil engineering. Summary of Task Description A convincing solution is sought for a dense, functional and high-quality primary school site that encompasses all necessary uses. In a first phase, a new school building / extension to the existing single-storey multipurpose hall shall be constructed north of the multipurpose hall. Once the new school building is completed, the existing Rüsler school building will be available for demolition (ground and first floor, without basement). Furthermore, a new building is needed for an auditorium with foyer, library and music school rooms, ideally solving the covering of the existing civil protection facility at the same time. The new auditorium building can be constructed concurrently with the first phase, but only if the Rüsler school building can remain standing during construction. Otherwise, the auditorium can be planned for a 2nd implementation phase. Objectives The goal is to obtain architecturally, ecologically and economically advantageous project proposals that can be realised in the short term. These should be based on the urban development layout of variant 4d of the feasibility study from June 2024 and take into account the specified phasing. Through clever integration with the existing structures, a dense and functionally convincing primary school site shall be created that optimally meets the needs of all users (pupils, teachers, parents, associations) and simultaneously achieves good economic efficiency. Despite significant building density, the site shall feature high-quality, well-usable outdoor spaces and play areas that provide sufficient opportunities for movement. The project proposals shall provide age-appropriate, atmospherically appealing spaces that enable various learning settings, contribute to a positive learning environment, and strengthen the sense of belonging among different age groups. At the same time, the proposals shall be designed to be optimised both constructively and operationally.
