Study Operational Concept Löwenplatz – Luzernerhof - Schwanenplatz
In the city and agglomeration of Lucerne, the construction of Lucerne's through-station (DBL) and the overall Lucerne Bypass system represent two major infrastructure projects for the transport system. In particular, the construction phase of the DBL will significantly shape the inner-city space of Lucerne for approximately ten years. Furthermore, even after completion of the DBL construction works, the space around the station and Lucerne's lake basin will be used considerably differently than it is today. For this reason, the Canton of Lucerne plans to coordinate the central road axes in the inner-city space for both the construction and operational phases of the DBL. One such central and important axis is the section Schwanenplatz – Schweizerhofquai – Alpen-/Löwenstrasse – Zürichstrasse. The Canton of Lucerne intends to reorganize this perimeter before the start of DBL construction works (anticipated from 2035 onwards). As part of the tendered study (SIA Phase 21), a primarily operational and supplementary design-related master plan is to be developed for the project perimeter. The focus is on the future organization of traffic management in the existing opposing one-way system of Alpen-/Löwenstrasse. The objective is to create the greatest possible scope for street space design and urban space enhancement while ensuring adequate capacity for all modes of transport as well as improved objective and subjective road safety.
