Cantonal Schools Freudenberg and Enge with Liceo Artistico and Schöllergut | Comprehensive Renovation
The Canton of Zurich intends to adapt the cantonal schools Freudenberg and Enge and the Schöllergut with the Liceo Artistico for contemporary school operations, upgrade them in a resource-efficient manner and restore them in accordance with heritage conservation principles. To this end, the Department of Construction of the Canton of Zurich, represented by the Office of Building Construction, on behalf of the Real Estate Office and the Department of Education, is conducting a procurement for the award of general planning services (design, tender and implementation) for the complete restoration of the cantonal schools Freudenberg and Enge with the Liceo Artistico as a branch of the cantonal school Freudenberg and the Schöllergut in 8002 Zurich, as well as for a service contract prior to the complete restoration for the preparation of a feasibility study as a design basis. A general planning team is sought, consisting of specialists in planning services in the following fields: architecture (lead), construction management, civil engineering, building services (HVAC), landscape architecture, building physics/acoustics, technical coordination, water supply/sewerage engineering and fire protection planning with experience in the implementation of large and complex complete renovation projects in the field of heritage-protected objects, preferably educational buildings or similarly complex uses. The general planning must have high organizational, architectural, construction and heritage conservation competence and must plan and implement the design and execution of the building project in a sustainable, cost- and quality-conscious and timely manner. The coordination of the design with the pedagogical and organizational needs of the schools is paramount. Economical use of raw materials, materials and resources in compliance with cantonal regulations is a prerequisite. Applications to participate must be submitted in accordance with the information provided in the tender documents. The selection of a maximum of five participating bidders will be made on the basis of the eligibility criteria specified in the tender documents. The offer to be submitted by the selected general planning teams includes the solution of two site-specific tasks as well as a quotation for the applicable fee parameters. The submission of an application for pre-qualification (phase 1) is not remunerated. All complete offers submitted in a timely manner to the Office of Building Construction (phase 2) will be remunerated at a flat rate of CHF 8,000.- (incl. VAT) per submission. Building Task The complete restoration encompasses the two sites Freudenberg and Enge (including the notary building) as well as the Schöllergut with the Liceo Artistico. The cantonal school Freudenberg together with the Liceo Artistico and the cantonal school Enge form one of the largest schools in the Canton of Zurich. This facility is of particular importance for the school space requirements of the left bank of Lake Zurich. The schools offer the following profiles. The cantonal school Freudenberg operates a long and short gymnasium with linguistic and mathematical-scientific profiles. The cantonal school Enge operates three gymnasium education programs with economic-legal profile, modern language profile, the Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology (PPP) profile, as well as the profession-oriented commercial school with an EFZ and business diploma. The Liceo Artistico, as a Swiss-Italian art gymnasium, is the only public gymnasium for fine arts in the Canton of Zurich. The Freudenberg Enge school complex was built from 1957 to 1961 by architect Jacques Schader and consists of two classroom wings: Cantonal School Enge and Cantonal School Freudenberg. The entire facility is regarded from a cultural-historical perspective as an outstanding example of 1960s architecture in Switzerland with international significance. In the 1970s and 1980s, the schools were expanded through the acquisition of the Schöllergut and the villa "Dem Schönen", today Liceo Artistico, on Parkring. The buildings located there since the 19th century are situated in an extensive park with additional outbuildings and testify to the life of the upper bourgeoisie in the city of Zurich. The notary building at Bederstrasse 28 is to be used as school space in the future. Now it is a matter of carefully restoring the buildings according to heritage conservation principles, implementing the requirements of modern school operations, and upgrading the buildings for another life cycle.
