Urban Space Grüze Station
The City of Winterthur aims to redesign the public space in the vicinity of Grüze Station in a manner that reflects the significance of the future mixed-use urban district. Today, the area is spatially fragmented by railway lines, characterized by industrial and commercial buildings as well as public infrastructure facilities, and simultaneously stands at the beginning of far-reaching development : With the redevelopment and expansion of Grüze Station, the planned Winterthur Grüze Nord stop, and the new bus bridge (Leonie-Moser Bridge, « Grüze Crossing » project), the second most important public transport hub in Winterthur is being created. The immediate vicinity of the station will be transformed, based on the design plan « Grüze Surroundings », until approximately 2040 into a new urban district. Planning has already begun on some parcels in both private and public ownership. The urban space Grüze Station will gain in importance as a connection for pedestrian and cycling traffic from neighboring districts and the wider area, including through the implementation of the urban cycling route Hegi and a combined pedestrian and cycling link (combined underpass « PU Combi »).
