Margarethen Platform Access and New Margarethen Bridge

The canton and SBB aim to expand access to rail and urban public transport on the western side of Basel SBB railway station: the new Margarethen bridge, with a platform access, is to meet the requirements of rail, tram, bicycle and pedestrian traffic. In the study commission « Margarethen Platform Access and New Margarethen Bridge », a design project for the structure and a planning team for further collaboration were jointly sought. The study commission sought a comprehensively convincing solution with high usage qualities that meets the requirements of the different time horizons 2035 and target state 2050+ in an upward-compatible manner. Due to high requirements from townscape and monument protection, protection, design and usage interests were to be considered and weighed as comprehensively as possible. The evaluation panel unanimously recommended to the clients SBB and Basel-Stadt to commission the project team « Penzel Valier » to continue working on this project.
