General Planning Team Selection Procedure – Buechwis School Complex, Benglen; Complete Renovation of Building 4 (School Swimming Facility and Gymnasium)
The Buechwis secondary school building, dating from the 1970s, is part of a heritage-protected ensemble comprising several building blocks and outdoor facilities. As part of the planned comprehensive renovation, the renovation of Building 4 is being expedited, for which a general planning team is being sought. This comprises a gymnasium with an underlying learn-to-swim pool and associated ancillary rooms (changing rooms, showers, circulation and technical spaces) as well as heat generation for the entire school complex. The structural and technical condition is overall heterogeneous. There are particular deficiencies in surfaces and sealing integrity, as well as considerable need for renewal in the ancillary rooms and building services systems. The gymnasium has functional and safety-related deficits, and earthquake safety does not meet current requirements. The renovation aims at comprehensive structural, technical and functional renewal while taking into account heritage conservation requirements. Key measures include securing the load-bearing structure, improving earthquake safety and fire protection, renewing the building envelope and interior surfaces as well as all building services, and optimizing operational and functional aspects (including pedestrian flows, storage and operational spaces, and barrier-free access in accordance with SIA 500).
