EPFL Competition - Restoration of Public Spaces and Redevelopment of Route des Noyerettes and Avenue Piccard
The Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (EPFL) is one of the most dynamic university campuses in Europe and ranks in the top 20 of numerous academic rankings worldwide. EPFL has approximately 18,000 people who carry out the School's three main missions: teaching and training, research and innovation. In the constantly evolving landscape of academic institutions, the need to promote environmental and social sustainability has never been more pressing. It is in this context that the Campus Piéton project was born in 2021, aimed at redesigning the place and profile of the campus's public spaces. Campus Piéton aims, on one hand, to seize the opportunity of a paradigm shift regarding individual vehicles, to transform road and parking areas into inclusive, green, convivial public spaces that are resilient to climate challenges. On the other hand, the project must also allow the recovery of the heritage qualities of a site catalogued by the Twentieth-Century Heritage Commission and subject to a Historic Monuments listing procedure.
