Moorland Regeneration Drumlin Landscape Nossikon-Sulzbach, Uster. Planning Services SIA Phases 31-33.
According to plan.
The Nossikon–Sulzbach drumlin landscape is a characteristic hilly landscape south of Uster, characterized by elongated, forested drumlins and moist valleys with near-natural streams. On sunny south-facing slopes, hedges, tree groups, and species-rich dry and semi-dry grasslands are found. The area encompasses several protected sites, including a lowland bog of national importance, wetlands from the nature conservation inventory, and a cantonal protected geomorphological landscape. Since 1993, the wetlands have been under protection, supplemented by buffer zones and contractually secured consolidation areas. Despite extensive management, however, some areas do not achieve the desired ecological quality: there are species-poor productive meadows, drained or filled-in areas, a culverted stream section, and a lowland bog requiring hydrological restoration. A pond and a former fish farm also need ecological upgrading. To clarify the need for action, vegetation surveys, potential analyses, and faunistic studies were conducted in 2025. For the lowland bog, detailed hydrological investigations are also available. The Nature Conservation Department (FNS) of the Canton of Zurich is planning the ecological upgrading and restoration of the impacted sub-areas. Due to spatial proximity and partially similar questions and objectives, the areas are combined in one large upgrading project. Planning services (SIA phases 31–33 with option for SIA phases 41-53) are to be provided for the entire upgrading project.
