Design competition in open procedure for general planning services The former Health Centre Oberstrass was built in 1972 and is part of a larger development with garden city characteristics. This includes the residential settlement of the Foundation for Elderly Housing of the City of Zurich (SAW) with approximately 140 apartments. The site is adjacent to Irchel Park and the University of Zurich-Irchel campus as well as the Milchbuck-Guggach green zone. The majority of the building components of the existing structure have reached or exceeded the end of their service life. Due to poor structural condition and significant operational deficiencies, operations were discontinued at the end of 2023. The future Health Centre for the Elderly (HCE) Oberstrass is planned as a replacement new building with a minimum of 120 beds. It is to become part of the citywide basic care provision and provide appropriate services in the field of specialized care for seniors with medium to high care needs. It supports the implementation of the Aging Strategy 2035, in particular the goal of neighbourhood-based care provision in District 6. In addition to housing and care services for elderly people, it also provides services and offerings for the immediate neighbourhood and the district. Required disciplines in the procedure: General planning, architecture, landscape architecture
