Planning Competitions – Canton Schaffhausen

Schaffhausen canton is small but maintains a solid competition activity relative to its population. Schaffhausen city with its historic old town near the Rhine Falls, and Stein am Rhein with its unique painted townscape, are the main venues. Competitions cover school buildings, public buildings and urban development.

Schaffhausen uses open project competitions under SIA 142. Heritage conservation and townscape protection play important roles in many projects within the historic centres.

Proximity to Germany and the canton's unusual geographic situation occasionally generate cross-border projects. Supra-regional firms from Zurich and eastern Switzerland participate regularly.
