Planning Competitions – Canton Geneva

Geneva canton, with its international standing and high urban density, is one of Switzerland's most active and demanding competition venues. The city of Geneva is the epicentre: densification, new residential quarters and international institutions (UN, ICRC, WTO) generate a constant flow of architectural projects. The OCL coordinates cantonal procurement and ensures high procedural quality.

Competitions are almost exclusively in French. Typical projects include social housing, school extensions, cultural buildings and open space design around Lake Geneva. Open project competitions and selective study mandates are equally common; large development projects often use two-stage procedures.

International participation is strong, particularly from French, German and Italian firms. Geneva is considered the most demanding architectural market in French-speaking Switzerland and a key entry point to the Romandie market for European offices.
