Planning Competitions – Canton Basel-Land

Basel-Land, a densely populated agglomeration canton, is a regular competition venue. Communities like Liestal, Allschwil, Reinach, Binningen and Arlesheim primarily issue schools, community centres and housing developments. Strong suburbanisation pressure has generated sustained demand for school space and municipal infrastructure.

Basel-Land mainly uses open project competitions under SIA 142. The cantonal planning office accompanies municipalities in competition preparation. Selective study mandates are used for larger school site developments.

Proximity to Basel brings supra-regional participant fields from across northwestern Switzerland. Infrastructure projects in the Jura foothills and cultural projects related to Augusta Raurica or the Birs region occasionally generate distinctive commissions.
